Many users have reported getting "muddy," "distorted," or "clipping" audio when recording their Orchid. In almost every case, this is caused by using the wrong type of cable.
- The Problem: Orchid has a stereo 3.5mm TRS headphone jack. If you use a cable that sums this stereo signal into a single mono input on your audio interface, it will cause phasing issues and a poor-quality recording.
- The Solution: To properly record Orchid's stereo audio, you need:
- An audio interface with at least two line-level inputs (for Left and Right). The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a popular choice in the community.
- A stereo breakout cable. This is a Y-cable that has a 3.5mm TRS connector on one end and two separate 1/4" TS (mono) connectors on the other end.
- How to Connect: Plug the 3.5mm end into your Orchid. Plug the two 1/4" ends into two separate input channels on your audio interface. In your DAW, create a new stereo audio track and set its input to the two channels your Orchid is connected to.
